That vintage and pearl

That vintage and pearl

When I got asked to make the cake for stephanie and luke I was so happy.  I have known Steph for a while now, and I was lucky enough to attend the evening reception just to see how beautiful she looked in her gorgeous wedding dress!! What a vision, and of course luke looked handsome in his naval uniform too lol! When it came to deciding on the cake, I had a ball at Stephs mums sat amongst the cutest westies, and given countless cups of teas as we drew through designs and searched for ideas. I even got a sneak peek at the bridesmaid dresses! Access all areas, best part of my job!  After a few hours of deliberating we finally agreed on an idea and this was the final result. The cake stood pr ...... read moreTuesday June 10th, 2014
Is it a tree??

Is it a tree??

Well, where to start with this cake! Yes, it's a cake. When I was approached to make this I thought I was well in over my head, but fortunately I was lucky enough to find an amazing company based in the states called the peoples cake, who helped me with the process online! (The magic of technology hey?) I had so much fun learning the technique of this cake and creating it. And when I could finally stack it all together at the venue with the fresh flowers, I was over joyed with the final result!  The cake was delivered to the lovely Jen and Rishi who wed at St Mellion golf club in Cornwall, such a beautiful venue, and the cake fitted the themes perfectly!  Hopefully ill get t ...... read moreSunday June 8th, 2014

A blog with a difference this time.  I finally got to make a minion cake! Whooooo...seen so many but hadn't yet had the opportunity to do so!  But finally the chance arrived when I was asked to make this 3d minion for a little boy called Freddie who turned 6 on Saturday.  Iv not done a lot of 3d cakes but they really are such fun to make. So here's some pics step by step of the little minion in the process. And of course a pic of Freddie him self with his minion! Possibly the most fav customer picture I have ever received! And I'm told little Freddie won't let anyone cut it! I wouldn't either to be fair, I'm with you on that one Freddie! Happy birthday Cutie!  Cotty xxx  ...... read moreSaturday May 3rd, 2014
The vegan, vegetarian, wheat and gluten free one!

The vegan, vegetarian, wheat and gluten free one!

So last year I was approached the most wonderful couple  Camilla and Alex, who wanted a wedding cake with a little bit a uniqueness......little did I know that I would be making a 3 tiered wedding cake that was wheat gluten dairy and vegan friendly!  Probably one of the most challenging cakes to test my baking skills thus far and to be honest I didn't think it was possible, however after a little research I managed to find a book from the states, (of course)  that featured so many varieties and flavours I had to buy it!  It proved extremely difficult to source the ingredients in the uk but I managed to find alternatives after yet more research!  I can't even remember how many times I r ...... read moreSunday February 2nd, 2014
The Proposal

The Proposal

I was so happy when an old friend of mine james, came to me to help him with a proposal for his new wife to be gemma a few weeks ago, It started off with a few ideas being chucked around, until we came to the conclusion of an engagement box cake, i was so excited when i knew i would get the opportunity to be part of something so special that would be remembered forever. James picked the cake up 1 day before he proposed and I must say he had the shakes when he came to collect the cake, so i offered to carry the cake to the car for him. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak of the ring, it was so gorgeous and so perfect with the cake we'd designed. I assured James that it would go perfectly a ...... read moreSunday July 14th, 2013
My first wedding dessert table

My first wedding dessert table

So..here it is my very first dessert table I had the pleasure of doing this splendid spread for my very close friends Maya and Sam, who celebrated there nuptials at the orangery at mount edgecombe in Cornwall on the the 29th of June.  It was a very beautiful and emotional day for everyone, and this was the centre of attention amongst the guests who had traveled far and wide to celebrate the day. The whole process of the wedding cake was decided as soon as maya and sam were engaged, i remember the words "you have to do our wedding cake!' and my first thought was "oh the pressure" as making a wedding cake for your best friend is never an easy thought. From start to finish i clocked up a t ...... read moreSunday July 7th, 2013
Marie Antoinette

Marie Antoinette

What can i say about this cake it has to be one of my favourites to date yet when it comes to wedding cakes This cake was for the lovely Ryan and Katie, who wed at st Elizabeth house a few months ago. it was my first wedding cake delivery to this venue, and I must say its my favourite wedding venue in plymouth. So light and airy, modern yet friendly and the staff were so kind. I trailed a new technique whilst making this cake, instead of buttercream I used chocolate ganache to smooth the layers of the cake inside, don't get me wrong it was very effective in making sharp crisp edges, but it's not a fan of being stored outside of a fridge for a long period of time. Needless to say in the summe ...... read moreSaturday June 1st, 2013
A Family Wedding

A Family Wedding

April 27th, My partners sister Shanna marries James at a beautiful venue in Cornwall called Trevenna Its always a pleasure to make a wedding cake for family, and when you have a simple design that is so effective its worth every hour thats put into the cake. generally the simpler they are the longer they take to decorate. The 1st tier of the cake was a fresh lemon zest sponge with lemon curd, the middle tier was vanilla bean with a fresh strawberry mousse, and the bottom tier was a chocolate, milk chocolate sponge filled with chocolate fudge. I think its great to have different flavour sponges for each tier of your cake, as it makes it easier to please all your guests when having a mix of th ...... read moreSaturday April 27th, 2013
